BizTalk to Azure Migration

Welcome to our video on migrating from BizTalk to Azure. As businesses strive to modernise their IT infrastructure, many are facing challenges with their existing

BizTalk Server environments, especially since the latest version, BizTalk 2020, will no longer be supported after 2028. In this video, we will explore the reasons why migrating to Azure is a strategic move, the benefits it offers, and how you can get started with a comprehensive migration assessment. Join us as we guide you through the process of transitioning to an evergreen cloud platform that eliminates the complexities of traditional licensing and infrastructure costs, ensuring a smooth and efficient migration journey.

Today, we are going to talk about migrating from BizTalk to Azure. Now, what’s the problem here? The problem is that many customers are still using BizTalk Server, and the latest version, BizTalk 2020, will go out of mainstream support in 2028. That might sound like a long way off, but if you have hundreds of applications to migrate, that isn’t long at all. Additionally, BizTalk isn’t really built for the cloud. So, if you’re looking to move everything to the cloud, there are numerous network issues you need to resolve before you can successfully run BizTalk there. There’s also a significant capital cost involved. If you have a lot of hardware on a replacement cycle, you need to consider whether you really want to spend all that money on hardware and licenses, or if you’d prefer to go cloud-based. Moreover, while BizTalk is being maintained, it is not being improved anymore. It’s a mature, sunset product. It will continue to work, but it isn’t evolving. So, what’s the solution? The natural migration point is to move to Azure because it is an evergreen cloud platform.

With Azure, issues related to licensing, versions, and end-of-mainstream support disappear. You only pay for what you use, allowing you to start small and scale up later. There is a concept of just-in-time infrastructure, meaning you only get the services you need when you need them. There’s no need to buy everything at once; you pay for what you use. The key advantage here is the elimination of capital costs; it’s purely consumption-based. So, how do you get started? The best approach is to bring us in for a migration assessment. Typically, this takes three to five days, and we will provide you with a report containing everything you need to know to plan your next phase. We’ll detail what your BizTalk applications contain, their bill of materials, and how that translates into Azure. From this, we can determine the size and complexity of your migration project. This information is crucial for planning; you need this data to proceed effectively. We can tell you which Azure services you’ll need and estimate the cost of running that footprint once you’ve migrated.

We’ll also identify which components you can reuse. Many BizTalk components, such as schemas and maps, can run in Azure, so you don’t have to start from scratch. Migrating to Azure is the only solution that offers this level of reuse. Additionally, we’ll identify any technical risks—issues you need to address and plan around. So, talk to us, get started, and get a migration assessment. It only takes a few days and provides all the information you need to plan your migration journey.
