Welcome to today’s video, where we’ll be diving into a detailed price comparison between two of the leading integration platforms: Azure and MuleSoft. As businesses look to streamline operations and enhance connectivity, choosing the right platform is crucial—not just for functionality but also for cost efficiency. We’ll break down the different pricing models of Azure’s pay-as-you-go cloud services and MuleSoft’s traditional licensing approach, highlighting the potential cost savings and key considerations you need to know. Whether you’re evaluating these platforms for the first time or reconsidering your current setup, this video will help you make an informed decision based on the numbers.
Two of the biggest integration platforms in the world are Azure and Mulesoft. Today, we’re going to look at the price comparison between these platforms by examining their different pricing models.
Azure operates on a cloud consumption model, offering cloud services only. This means you don’t have any CapEx—there’s no upfront cost. Everything is charged by the second, and it shows up on your bill at the end of the month, fully pay-as-you-go. Mulesoft, on the other hand, uses a more traditional licensing model. You are committing for a year and paying that amount upfront. It’s a significant investment, but it promises to do everything. The question is, do you need everything? Have you compared the services? And is it as straightforward as they claim? Those questions are outside the scope of this video, because we’re focusing on the costs and typical expenses.
If you want an Azure integration environment, on average, it costs around $43,000 per year, sometimes as low as $33,000 and up to $52,000. This is a typical range you might expect to pay. For MuleSoft, you’re looking at around $175,000, and with a good discount, maybe up to $250,000 if you’re paying the full price.
The cost ratio between these platforms is roughly one to five, with Azure offering up to 80% cost savings. This is a massive difference. The question is, are you really getting the value from MuleSoft? Are they delivering on their promises, or are you just paying for the brand? I’ll leave that for you to decide.
