The Top 10 Problems of Not Migrating from BizTalk PART 1

Welcome to today’s video, where we discuss the top 10 problems of not migrating to Azure. In this two-part series, we’ll explore the critical reasons why sticking with outdated systems can hinder your business. In this first part, we’ll cover the initial five challenges you might face, including limited support, scalability issues, high maintenance costs, security risks, and the lack of modern features. If you’re considering a migration or just want to understand the benefits of moving to Azure, stay tuned for valuable insights and potential funding opportunities to help you get started.

In this video today, we’re going to talk about the top 10 problems of not migrating to Azure. We’re going to do this in two parts and cover the first five.

So, number one is that you’re dealing with a product that’s mature, possibly end-of-life. There is limited support and limited updates that you’re going to get. Things are not being kept abreast of the latest innovations. You’re just on an end-of-life product. If you’re not on the 2020 version, you’re out of support. That’s not a good place to be.

Number two, scalability limits. One of the things you typically do with BizTalk is put a BizTalk Group in, along with the servers and the infrastructure, which gives you a fixed capacity. If you need to scale, you need to buy more hardware. You can scale vertically or horizontally, but it’s very difficult to then scale back down. You’ve got fixed capacity. Unlike the cloud, where you’ve got elastic scale, if you’re not using it, you’re not paying for it.

Number three is maintenance costs. As we mentioned, with that fixed cost, you’re buying servers. Those servers need to be maintained, patched, and upgraded.

You’ve got to buy licenses for them. You’ve got to buy hardware and keep refreshing it periodically. You also need the skills to keep patching and maintaining those servers. All in all, that is a high maintenance cost compared to using cloud-native technologies.

Number four, security. Right now, the latest version of BizTalk is still in support. However, older versions, like 2013, are a security risk because they’re out of date and not receiving security updates. Even the latest version of BizTalk will be out of mainstream support by 2028, and completely out of support by 2030. The clock is ticking. If you have any version older than 2020, you’re out of support and at a security risk. Even if you’re in support, you still have to patch and maintain your systems.

And the last point we’ll cover today is the lack of modern features. In a modern integration cloud platform, you have features like API management, which is essential for cataloging, securing, and governing your APIs.

You don’t get that with BizTalk. You also miss out on modern analytics capabilities, which allow you to plug in all your operational data into a contemporary analytics platform. Additionally, the administration of BizTalk is isolated, installed on servers with its own admin plugin, creating a siloed application that’s not integrated with anything else. In contrast, a modern platform offers a single pane of glass for governance, providing one place to manage everything.
